Story Line Of Game: In 1987, Carl "CJ" Johnson witnesses his younger brother, Brian, being murdered by the rival gang members. Being blamed for the murder and under a lot of pressure, Carl leaves Los Santos and starts a new life, moving to Liberty City.5 years later in 1992, Carl is an ambitious car thief and working with Joey Leone, a professional mechanic and a Leone Family member. He suddenly gets a call from his older brother, Sweet, who informs him that their mother, Beverly Johnson, has been murdered. Carl decides to go home for the funeral.Upon returning and arriving in the hood, corrupt C.R.A.S.H. police officers Frank Tenpenny (Samuel L. Jackson) and Edward "Eddie" Pulaski (Chris Penn), whom Carl has had history with, apprehend him and threaten to frame him for a fellow officer's murder (which they had committed just minutes earlier) unless he assists them in their illegal operations.
